Oh Glorious Day!

So, I know this officially makes me a big nerd, but how can I not be excited. I saw this sign on the way home from work, and yes, I did hang out the car window to get this picture. $2.99 I hear the Heavens singing!

Today's lunchtime activity was the Sponge Throw. It went a lot like the ice cream drop, only kids got to throw sponges full of water at us (weather report: Today's high maybe 65 degrees). Because Mr. Babcock so generously volunteered me to help, I also got put on the list to participate in the Sponge Throw. I remembered last year's event (LOTS of water) so I brought clothes to change into just for this festivity. That turned out to be a good thing...

Cute Ms. White, today was Culture Day and I was a Canadian Cowgirl (who was smart enough to take extra clothes to school) before...
After Mr. Gibbons and Mr. Babcock finished emptying the buckets of water over my head. We kind of encouraged the chaos that followed amongst the students! It's so fun to see the students loving an activity so much!
For those of you who know me well enough you know that I am not completely innocent in all of this, but I DID get the worst of it. I walked in and hugged all the secretaries and then after I returned from second lunch looking even worse I got the "Go change your clothes or you're going to get pneumonia" lecture. I LOVED this day!

You Gotta Love Spirit Week! Go Ligers!!

Monday was our Spirit Week Assembly. At the end of the assembly the Cheerleaders and SBOs did a fashion show of what kids ought to wear for each day. The Cheerleaders were lovely in their pajamas.

Tuesday is Super Hero Day! Did Ms. White participate?? Of course she did! I was a conservative Wonder Woman (red cape, fancy earrings, and I used my princess crown because that's the closest to her hat that I could come up with. Actually, any excuse I can find to wear my princess crown I will take!)
Wednesday = Sports Day! Will Ms. White participate?? Of course! I'm still debating on what to wear. Should I go with all my University of Utah stuff I can find or my Valley Junior High Wrestling sweatshirt?

Thursday will be Culture Day. Last year I went all decked out as a Hawaiian girl. This year I'm going with my own culture, Canadian. :) I'm wearing a Canada sweatshirt (just so everyone knows what I'm representing), cowboy boots, and I'm going to string a cowboy hat around my neck. AWESOME!

Friday will be crazy day. This one is stumping me a little. I think I may go all out and do the craziest thing I can think of.... wear my BYU Nauvoo sweatshirt. AAAHHHH!! I have NEVER worn that out in public! That's pretty crazy for me, but will anyone get it?

To continue with the Spirit Week activities today was the ice cream drop. Because I made the foolish mistake of going to the district office for an hour this morning Mr. Babcock had the opportunity to volunteer me to participate in this event. The cheerleaders came through the office looking for me to ask me to help and Mr. Babcock said, "Of course she will help. She would love to." See if I ever leave him alone in the office again!

I was not even close to prepared because I purposely did NOT volunteer for this activity. Did I wear nice clothes? Yes. Did I wear my hair down? Yes. Did I have anything to pull my hair up with? Only a headband! I was just glad they gave us ponchos. So, what we do is lay on the ground with an ice cream cone in our mouths while a student climbs a step stool and tries to dump a scoop of ice cream into the cone. Really that doesn't happen, they just try and make us messy. It's kind of scary to see a hunk of brown stuff falling toward your face. I was so jumpy that the first time it was my turn I bit the end of my cone off!

I learned quickly, just wrap the hood of the poncho all the way around your face, leaving only the ice cream cone exposed. First lunch I avoided any huge messes. Although one of my students grabbed a bunch of ice cream at the end and smeared it all over my chin, don't worry I'll hunt him down! Second lunch I wasn't so lucky. The Cheerleaders and SBOs were encouraging everyone to choose me. I had more ice cream dropped on me in that lunch than any of the actual volunteer teachers. It pays to be so popular. :) I had ice cream all down my arms, chin, and neck. But, I did get to have an ice cream cone when it was all over. I think I earned it.

Liger Chase

Friday Oct. 3rd was our annual Liger Chase. It's about a three mile walk/run where everyone chases the liger who is riding on the back of Mr. Frustaci's motorcycle. This year the parent volunteers were confused about the route we were supposed to take, so those at the front of the pack were sent on a short cut, while those of us near the back made an extra loop. So, I ended up swiftly walking more than 3 miles. I came in second place among the "girl teachers." Considering there were only 3 of us and we all came in together near the end, that's not as impressive as it sounds. :)

Aunty Sarah Strikes Again

This last weekend I got to babysit my nephew, Straps the cat. He is so very cute, except in the middle of the night when he's practicing his pouncing. He pretty much loves his Aunty Sarah! I even introduced him to a new hobby, knitting. Well, I actually just donated a new toy to his collection, a ball of yarn. He caught on quickly.




Straps (or Ralphy as I call him because Straps is a weird name!) loves to play hide-and-seek. This was the first hiding place he found right after he got to my house.
This was his next hiding place that became his favorite during the weekend. We keep our blankets rolled up under an end table and he loved that!
Straps also took a liking to my anklets. There were several middle of the night attacks under the blankets.

Scenic Drive

Callie and I went for a drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon tonight. I saw a report on the news the other night about the fall colors and I wanted to see them for myself. I figured now that I have a car that will actually make it up the canyon that it would be even more exciting. :) We didn't see any spectacular colors, but it was still very beautiful. It was so quiet and peaceful. We went for a hike and found a place to just sit and enjoy the scenery around us. I would highly recommend it for anyone who has had a difficult day and just needs to get away.

When we stood up to hike back down Callie realized that she had sat in sap! It was definitely very very funny and classic Callie!
