Remind me why I love this job...

So, today has been "one of those days" and although I vented at James and then came home and ran on the treadmill I still need to get a little more off my chest and then I will probably crash.

Last week a teacher informed me that he had heard rumors that one of our office aides who is also one of my students had stolen Hall Passes from my desk and was using them to excuse himself when he was tardy (which is often because he has to walk his girlfriend to class... gag). I have a pretty good relationship with this young man and it broke my heart that he would do that. Instead of jumping the gun and confronting him I made our attendance secretary aware of the possible issue so she could keep her eyes open. Today our secretary from the front office came back to me with a handful of blank Hall Passes and said that this young man could no longer be an office aide because he had been found with these passes. I talked to him and asked him if he had stolen them from my desk and he told me he got them from the front office. Then I asked him whose signature he had been forging and he said one of the secretaries'. I was just so incredibly disappointed. Later this afternoon that same teacher came to me and pulled me out of a meeting to hand me a Hall Pass from that student with "my" signature on it. For those of you who have seen my curly swirly signature is this even close?

Honestly! My signature has got to be one of the easiest to forge and this wasn't even a good attempt! How do I get through to this kid? The assistant principal didn't suspend him because he's a fairly decent kid who has just started making stupid decisions. Our assistant principal also favors the athletes and this kid plays up at the high school. FRUSTRATING!
Then I walk in the Counseling Center after receiving this lovely news and was ambushed by our Social Worker and Intern Counselor. They pretty much told me that I wasn't doing my job and I had no credibility with my students because I didn't do anything to help solve a certain Drama Queen's problem. The thing is, I dealt with this problem 3 weeks ago, I've talked to Drama Queen several times since then (she's a regular customer) and she hasn't brought this up at all. I felt completely ambushed and I was so so so angry.
When that FINALLY ended I ran to James' office and just went off on him. For once he didn't tease me. :) He told me that I was doing a good job. He pretty much said exactly what I needed to hear. There may be an Intern Counselor smackdown in the next few days because I'm at the breaking point. Watch out Ms. White's on the war path!!!

Sorry about your day, Sar. You love your job because you make a difference, and most kids don't take advantage of your kindness and/or friendship. Leif is reading this monotone in "computer" voice as I type this. That should make you giggle. He's even dictating the punctuation. It's his way of saying he's sorry too. Love ya.

That really sucks. Sometimes I just want to throttle the kids. They make me so mad, especially the ones who manitpulate!
As for the "Intern" a pox on her house!

Oh my word! Sarah, I'd be LIVID. I'm so sorry that happened (working in middle school myself, I can at least sympathize). I do think your little forgery friend should get harsher punishment though! I mean SERIOUSLY. That's a federal offense! It shouldn't matter in the slightest that the kid's half-way decent or an athlete. I loath that Star Power still gets people out of things; especially kids! They need to learn; even if it is the hard way. You're way nicer than I am. I'd be goin' straight to the school resource officer and filing charges. Hopefully things get better for you!

gratefully, I don't have that problem much in elementary school.Afterall, most of them are just learning to write.I'll tell ya though,my signature used o be neat and legible and then one day in a round about way someone had forged mine too, different circumstance, that's why now I start with an A and end with an E and then start with M and end with the T. Each time I sign my name I make sure that the A and the E and the M and the T are always different. I'm sorry that happened. kids these days can be so deceitful.

I must say, that's a pretty crappy forgery - i say DUH to the teacher who accepted it! I'm so sorry that you got into with the social worker and the intern - ugh! That's frustrating!
