Reality Town

Wednesday March 7, 2012 Reality Town was held at Valley Jr. High for our 8th graders. This is one of my favorite activities of the year. It is a TON of work, but thanks to awesome volunteers and amazing secretaries it went perfectly! Us counselors would be lost without Tina and Juliene.

Each student is assigned a job based on their 2nd quarter GPA (which is eye-opening for many students). With this job comes a paycheck and a family which they must support. They visit different businesses buying necessities to support their families and try not to run out of money. Students are encouraged to dress up to match their job, and doing so will help them earn an extra $100. We had lots of students dress up this year, and it's always fun to see their creativity.

This is what the gym looks like.

We have a military booth students can visit to join the military to add money to their montly incomes. We had volunteers from Utah National Guard running the military booth. To go along with the test the students must pass they also expected students to do push-ups. It was so funny to walk past and here them hollering at the kids. The students loved it!

It was a great day! But, a day I am glad only comes once a year...
