29th Birthday Surprises

Thursday May 10th was my 29th birthday.  I LOVE birthdays!  Not just mine, but I love everyone's birthdays!  I just love the celebration and making everyone feel loved.

However, this year I entered my birthday having major pity party.  There were several things bothering me that I just didn't know what to do about.  I figured my birthday would go mostly unnoticed with all the other things going on that day, so I tried to prepare myself.

One of the things I was worried about was the fact that I'm 29.  Usually age doesn't bother me.  I willingly tell my students how old I am all the time, but 29 just seemed so disappointing.  Of course I spent time thinking of all the things I haven't done, and how things didn't turned out the way I had planned when I was 18.  I still have brief moments of sadness, but in reality I am so blessed.  Think of all the things I HAVE done!  I go to concerts all the time, I travel, I own a home, I own a great car, I have a Bachelors and a Masters degree, I have a successful career, I've made tons of friends, I've had meaningful relationships, I'm dating a guy that really likes me despite my bouts of craziness, I have a fantastic collection of shoes (pretty sure I'm at 55 pairs), I've got tons of clothes that I love, I have a good relationship with my family, I've been through the temple, I'm a worthy member of the LDS church,  and the list goes on.  See?  I've done a lot for 29.  That's reason enough to celebrate!

My coworkers certainly surprised me!  I walked into the Counseling Center that morning and the entire place was decorated.  There was a huge banner hanging from the ceiling, signs on my door, signs on the window in my office, confetti and balloons everywhere, presents hidden throughout my office and the Counseling Center, and a cake!  AWESOME!!!

Not only that, but later in the day while I was at a meeting Travis snuck roses into my office and my parents had flowers delivered.  Seriously... greatest day ever!

Juliene got me this beautiful cake covered in my favorite color!  Cake for breakfast!!!!!

I think Jacob was concerned that I wasn't planning to share.

My birthday loot!  I am so loved!

Travis had been telling me all week about all the things he had to do at work on my birthday and he might not get off until really late.  My family was going to be at Emma's choir concert, so I was feeling all sorts of down in the dumps.  So, I chose to stay late at work just chatting with all my friends and enjoying the awesome birthday atmosphere in the Counseling Center.  Travis called me only minutes after I left my office to inform me that he was done with work, which was a huge surprise to me.  I met him at his house where he gave me a beautiful necklace with a heart pendant and matching earrings (he's figured out my love of sparkly things) and then he took me to Tuacano's for dinner (YUM!).  When we went back to his house after dinner he surprised me again with my very own Reeses ice cream cake (because I'm pretty sure there's nothing better than Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and ice cream!) complete with "Happy B-Day Sarah" written on it, candles, and speed singing "Happy Birthday."  I was just giddy with birthday awesomeness.  It seriously was an amazing birthday, and surpassed all my expectations.  Thank you to everyone who made the day SO awesome!

Sounds like such a fun day! I'm sad I couldn't be closer to celebrate with you! I'm pretty much totally jealous of your Reese's ice cream cake! I have awesome memories of our ice cream creations on Sundays in Nauvoo-the best EVER!!!
