Wednesday June 20th I officially became a participant in D'Nell's Summer of Fun. I jumped in D'Nell's car with Genevieve and Suzie and we were on our way to the West Desert to celebrate the Summer Solstice at the Sun Tunnels. It was a 3 1/2 hour drive, but we had so much fun! We made a stop in Wendover to eat at a buffet and then we were on our way again.
The Sun Tunnels are a piece of art set up by the wife of the man who designed the Spiral Jetty. There are a set of tunnels for the Summer Solstice and a set for the Winter Solstice.
On our drive out to Wendover on I-80 we noticed all the words written with rocks on the side of the road. Of course we had to stop and add our own word. Amber was unable to join us on our adventure, so we wrote her name and sent her a picture.
The Sun Tunnel Awesome Group: Me, Suzie, Gen, and D'Nell at the Tree of Utah
We made it to the Sun Tunnels before the sun set, luckily. It was the very most perfect day! The sky was completely cloud-free and the temperature was perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better day.
The Swims= SO FUN!
There were some weirdos at the Sun Tunnels! This trip provided some interesting people watching. This couple were the winners. There was a professional photographer there and when he saw this woman hula-hooping and her boyfriend spear dancing he invited them to dance in the Sun Tunnels so he could take pictures of them. It was very.... interesting.
It was seriously super cool and super fun! We're already planning to go again next year! Totally worth the long drive, just make sure you have fun people with you like we did.
