Believe it or not, Travis had never been to Antelope Island. I was shocked myself. The mighty hunter was missing out on something I knew he would absolutely love. On Saturday May 19th Travis and I ventured to the middle of the Great Salt Lake. It made my heart happy to watch Travis!
"BUFFALO!" The excitement was almost contagious. We eventually learned at the Visitors' Center that they are actually bison, but we'll stick with buffalo.
We took a little turn off and eventually found these big guys up on a hill. What did Travis do? Well, of course he jumped out of the car and headed up the hill to aggravate the buffalo...
"Sarah! Take my picture."
"Oh! He's standing up! Sarah, it might be time to get back in the car."
And then there was the pretend hunting, complete with gun noises. At that point the buffalo headed toward us and I was finally able to convince Travis to come down and get his rear end in the car.
Travis then insisted that I get my picture taken, but I refused to go more than 3 steps up the hill. I was not going to risk having to outrun one of these guys.
Our next stop was the ranch that's on the island. We got out and explores for awhile and spent some time analyzing all the horses.
As we headed back around the island Travis spotted this antelope on the side of the road (I don't know how he saw it because it was on the passenger's side and I didn't even see it), grabbed my camera and disappeared down the hill.
He took a gazillion pictures and was so excited about how close he was able to get. These animals are lucky it's not hunting season.
Our last stop was the Visitors' Center. As we neared this pretend buffalo the usually calm Shelby flipped out. She growled and barked and got all sorts of nasty. It was so funny!
It was a fun evening. I was glad I got to introduce this bit of Utah to Travis. We'll see how long it takes him to draw out to hunt on Antelope Island. Buffalo beware...
